Everyday Athlete member Danielle Wommack was one of the founding members of our Everyday Athlete Coaching Program. We were so inspired by her story that we had to share it with you. World, meet Danielle Wommack; Danielle Wommack, meet World.
Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
In my early 30s, I was mortified at what I saw in the mirror. I was so focused on my young daughters that I just didn’t take the time to look after myself and I was soft. So, I joined our local athletic club and started working with a personal trainer.
At the time, he would literally have me do three very simple exercises and it wiped me out. I didn’t even own gym clothes—I would wear my husband’s white T-shirts and cut-off pajama sweat pants.
I stuck with it and started to feel the positive effects of higher energy, better sleep and more strength. Within a year, I was working out with a trainer four times a week and the changes to my body were dramatic. It felt fantastic! I was hooked and decided to become a personal trainer. After my third child, I have been able to maintain my fitness and a body that makes me proud.Click To Tweet
I wanted to empower other women to take charge of their health, fitness, and wellbeing. That was 13 years ago, and I have moved into a management position (fitness director) now. But I still work everyday training clients, mostly woman, and showing them how to achieve health and wellness goals they never imagined possible.
After my third child, who is now 8-years-old, I have been able to maintain my fitness and a body that makes me proud. Not a competition body, but one that is fit and healthy — and real. One that often gets remarks like, “I can’t believe you’re 48!” and “No way have you had three kids!”.
I love your passion for this. What was your training/fitness routine like before you joined the Everyday Athlete Coaching Program?
I love to learn and make a concentrated effort to do so daily with a humble, open mind. As such, even though I am a personal trainer with a lot of education and certs, I continue to seek out more information. And I hire personal trainers to create my workouts for me.
Before joining The Everyday Athlete Coaching Program, I spent two years being trained by another trainer online where they publish monthly workouts for subscribers, usually two different upper body strength, two different lower body strength and one cardio session per week.
Why did you join the Everyday Athlete Coaching Program?
Although I loved the other programming, I was starting to feel bored. Every trainer has a style and I was ready to learn more and experience something new. After over a decade of strength training, I believe the basics are best, but enjoy seeing how different professionals in our industry prescribe these basics.
How did you discover the Everyday Athlete Coaching Program?
I attended the Strength Matters Summit in San Diego this past April and was so very impressed with all that I learned and the kindness and “realness” of the people associated with this organization. When the email came through describing the Coaching Program at under $100/month, I jumped at the opportunity.I was so very impressed with the kindness and 'realness' of the people associated with Strength MattersClick To Tweet
Compared to other fitness programs, what stood out the most to you about our Program?
I appreciated that there was going to be individualization of programming. I do not have that with my current programming. I have been very impressed so far with the focus on mobility and things I have not emphasized in my life (steps!). The Nudge app has been AWESOME!
What would you tell someone that is thinking about joining The Everyday Athlete Coaching Program?
The all-encompassing nature of the program and the progressive nature makes it truly unique. In addition, the use of apps is convenient and allows for detailed videos and tracking of all exercise routines. Expect to have fun, be challenged and learn. You will not find more top notch industry experts than the team put together by Strength Matters.
As my passion has always been woman’s weight loss clients, I LOVE showing them the Nudge app and how easily they can track their water intake, nutrition, sleeps, weight and indulgences.
Who have you worked with on our team? What has that been like?
Just getting underway, but Phil McDougall and James Breese. Both are encouraging, friendly and knowledgeable.
Describe to people in your own words, what it’s like to be on the Everyday Athlete Coaching Program?
Expect to work hard and learn a lot. You will focus on nutrition, exercise, strength, mobility and everyday movements like walking. You will be fully supported, have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and communicate with Strength Matters. Plan on having lots of fun and feeling empowered as you tackle each new challenge.
What has surprised you the most about the Everyday Athlete program?
As a bonus, your family will most likely experience benefits, too. My husband has bought a Fitbit and likes competing with me for steps. I have increased my daily average from 5,000ish to over 10,000. No more feeling chained to my desk. We are now taking family walks every evening with our kids and they love it! We all give each other our undivided attention without the distraction of our phones or other electronic devices. Just good family chat time.
What exceeded your expectations about the Everyday Athlete Coaching Program?
The use of technology with the Nudge and Fitbot Apps and programs.
What have you learned about your own fitness since joining the Everyday Athlete Coaching Program?
I spent too much time sitting. Even though I worked out regularly and hard, the sitting was taking a toll on my mobility. Also, drinking lots of water has huge effects on your complexion, energy level and how your body feels and moves.Sitting Was Taking A Toll On My Mobility!Click To Tweet
What results have you seen from the Program?
I look forward to my daily workouts again! It’s not something I have to do, it’s something I want to do and look forward to do each day. My energy level is higher and I have less tweaks and twinges.
What would you recommend about the Everyday Athlete Coaching Program?
If you are looking for a well-rounded fitness program that isn’t boring and allows for growth, individualism, and learning, this is your program.
